Have you ever seen beauty awakened by the storm? Spring arrived later than normal to Western New York. Though it’s the middle of May, there are still trees with no leaves and others are just starting to bud. Even the trees that sport their leaves early are small and tender.
The sky is dark. The day is dreary. It is raining. Murmuring drowns out the soothing sound of rain gently pattering on the window. (I didn’t have opportunity to take photo while still raining.)

But, what if we open our eyes to the beauty awakened by the storm? We might actually see the leaves glisten in a vast array of greens. Or notice how they stand out in vivid contrast against the darkened bark saturated with water. What if we open our eyes and appreciate God’s art? Or thank Him for the rain. And, remember that when the sun reappears new growth will be evident at every turn.
Grumbling usually signifies missed opportunities. Beauty not seen. Purpose not considered. The heart conditioned to only indulge in instant gratification. So temporal. So selfish.

How much more satisfying it would be to open our eyes to the beauty awakened by the storm. To stand in awe when the thunder crashes and the lightening dances across the sky. To live in the moment, not to wish the moment over. To make the best of every situation, especially when out of our control.

A new day dawns. Buds pop and blossoms bloom. The air is fresh and fragrant. Now our eyes magically open to the beauty awakened by the storm. Now, though weeks later than normal, we get to enjoy Spring.

I hope you’re encouraged to find the joys in your present surroundings. To appreciate the circumstances or situations you’re in, even if the forecast is gloomy. Otherwise you’ll spend your whole life looking for the things you want and miss the things you already have.

The morning after I posted this blog, we spent an hour making trenches to keep our house from flooding. I’m very thankful for our health and our home.
